Outstanding Growth Earns Ranking in 2012’s Top 50 by San Diego Business Journal

Due to exceptional growth in providing client services, the San Diego Business Journal named At Your Home Familycare among San Diego’s Top 50 Women Owned Businesses.

The list is compiled annually by the San Diego Business Journal, an award-winning publication that examines the San Diego economy and offers analyses of the community’s ever-changing business and economic scene. Rankings are based on audited and verified company financial statements of 2011 gross revenues. This is the eighth time At Your Home Familycare has achieved this designation.

At Your Home Familycare is the top women-owned business in the in-home care industry in the San Diego region, among the fastest growing business sectors in the United States.

“It is humbling to be included in a listing of the top women-owned businesses in our community,” said Laurie Edwards-Tate, MS, President and Founder of At Your Home Familycare. “The economy is testing our mettle and the political climate surrounding small business is uncertain. According to the Center for Women’s Business, the number of women-owned businesses in this country grew at twice the rate of all firms between 1997 and 2010. It is estimated that more than 10 million U.S. businesses are owned by women. Only three percent of all women-owned businesses such as At Your Home Familycare produce $1 million and above annually in revenue, compared to a six percent rate for male-owned businesses. Seventy percent of women-owned businesses are in the service industries.

This year, Christina Meade was the recipient of our Caring Bear Award. A valued employee for six years, Christina is the Manager of the Administrative Services Department, and is well-respected among her peers due to her unparalleled administrative abilities, her dedication, her unwavering focus on the mission of At Your Home Familycare, and her consistent performance.

Steven Schweitzer, At Your Home Familycare Ambassador and four-year employee, was an honorable mention recipient of a Caring Bear. A winner the prior two years, Steven’s loyalty, dedication, and commitment to service is laudable and rare, and deserving of recognition.

Edwards-Tate Among 2012 “Top Influentials” Nominees

At Your Home Familycare President and CEO Laurie Edwards-Tate joins an impressive list of San Diegans who have made a difference in the region’s economy, business community or specific industry as a nominee for one of 2012’s “Top Influentials” by the San Diego Daily Transcript.

Each year, the Transcript receives nominations from the community and selects honorees in several categories including Defense and Technology, Finance, Health and Life Sciences, Hospitality and Education, Law and Business Services, and Real Estate and Construction. Over 300 submissions were received, the biggest nominee pool ever. Just under 200 finalists have been selected, and the winners will be named in the Transcript on December 30, 2011.

AYHF President and CEO Laurie Edwards-Tate, accompanied by her husband Bill Tate, was honored as one of 75 finalists at the San Diego Business Journal’s Fifth Annual Most Admired CEO Awards at the Paradise Point Resort.

“Being recognized as one of San Diego’s most dynamic local industry leaders is an honor, especially during such challenging economic times,” said Edwards-Tate. “I am privileged to be included with this amazing group of CEOs. It was heartening to see deserving colleagues including Southern Caregivers Resource Center CEO Lorie VanTilburg, Greater San Diego Meals on Wheels CEO Debbie Case, and Employment and Community Options CEO Nancy Batterman also honored.”

Debbie Case received a Community Services Award for Nonprofit Organizations. Father Joe Carroll received the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award.

The list of the region’s 100 fastest growing privately held companies is compiled annually by the San Diego Business Journal, an award-winning publication that examines the San Diego economy and offers analyses of the community’s ever-changing business and economic scene. It is based on audited and verified company financial statements over a three-year period. This is the third time At Your Home Familycare has achieved this designation.

“I applaud the San Diego Business Journal’s support for the business community, and its long-held commitment to women-owned businesses,” said Laurie Edwards-Tate, President and CEO of At Your Home Familycare. “We are navigating yet another difficult year for small businesses, especially due to the challenging business climate in California. This victory is hard-won and I am especially grateful, yet it communicates a mixed message about the difficulty small business owners have due to unnecessary regulations and taxation.

“Any advantages we might have due to market demand are being offset by increases in unemployment insurance claims, increased costs, and unprecedented burdens placed on businesses by worker’s compensation insurance and the regulations surrounding it.

“We would see more robust growth among business next year if we could institute badly needed reforms which support small and medium-sized firms instead of destroying them. I encourage our legislators to immediately support tax relief for businesses on both a federal and state level by members of both political parties.

“Small businesses employ over half of all private sector employees in the United States and have generated 64 percent of new jobs over the past 15 years. To stimulate critically needed job growth, we simply must have immediate tax relief for business tax obligations, or we will see the collapse of yet another critical sector within our economy,” said Edwards-Tate.

“Though At Your Home Familycare is among the smallest of this remarkable group, I feel honored to serve our community’s seniors, disabled, and youth, helping them to remain safely in their own homes. On behalf of everyone devoted to our mission, At Your Home Familycare is grateful for our success,” added Edwards-Tate.

To qualify for Top 100 consideration, businesses must be privately held and independent. The business cannot be a division or subsidiary of another company.
