On Wednesday evening, November 6, 2013, Southern Caregiver Resource Center hosted their special event, Operation Family Caregiver: Supporting our Military Families, at the beautiful Veteran’s Museum and Memorial Center in San Diego’s historic Balboa Park.
According to Edwards-Tate, “It was inspirational being present with members of our community who are truly concerned about Veterans and their families. The Veteran’s Museum and Memorial Center was a perfect venue to showcase this event, and it was filled with historic photos and memorabilia from prior wars.”
Recognizing the supports and services which are necessary in stabilizing families of disabled Veterans, SCRC was one of only five national sites to received funding from the prestigious Rosalyn Carter Institute for program development.
Special featured guests for this event included Congresswoman Susan A Davis, California’s 53rd District; and, Jennifer Town, Director of Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care (C5) Program, Naval Medical Center.
“Hearing the poignant story shared by a local disabled Veteran and his wife, bravely struggling to heal and regain their entire lives, highlighted the need for our community to continue developing programs which support them, and SCRC’s critical role in accomplishing this goal,” said Edwards-Tate.
