We love our California summers. But hot weather is no day at the beach for many seniors. I’m Laurie Edwards-Tate with “LifeCycles.”

Heat can be deadly. Heatstroke can kill in minutes. Beat the heat and slow down. Take a cool shower or sponge bath. Drink more fluids than usual. Eat smaller meals, and eat more often. Stay indoors on the lowest floor possible. Clean or replace air filters. Use fans to circulate air. Open windows at night if it is safe. Close them during the day. The County of San Diego’s Designated Cool Zones sites provide relief during hot days. To find a Cool Zone near you, call 800-510-2020.
