Five foods fight depression. Some will surprise you! I’m Laurie Edwards-Tate, with “LifeCycles.”

Depression is a brain disorder affecting 20 Americans.  Studies show eating certain foods can help reduce your risk . Dark chocolate is one many people know.  Green tea can reduce your risk too. Omega three fatty acids have anti-depressant properties. They are found in cold water fish like salmon and tuna, but also in walnuts.  Healthy high fiber whole grains protect you from magnesium deficiency, which can cause anxiety.

None of these foods are a substitute for medical treatment. But they can improve your overall health. Feeling healthier and able to stay active as you get older all add up to better mental health too.
