The website TopRetirements.com has ten tips to consider.

Investigate the crime rate and the political situation. What medical care is available. Check out the tax laws, and how to get money to yourself there. Are you OK with living in a gated community? Witnessing widespread poverty? Will you be welcome as a resident? Can you live away from family and friends? This is the number one reason people return to the U.S.

Bottom line: do your research, hire a tax expert and determine your priorities.

Forbes says the best places to retire in the world are Australia, Thailand, Italy, Panama, Ireland, France, Malaysia, Spain, and Canada.
