Supporting Women’s Heart Health: A Call to Action

Feb 4, 2025 | All News

As a woman who has dedicated over 40 years to improving the lives of others, I’m honored to be nominated for the Go Red for Women’s Woman of Impact campaign. This year, I’ve joined a team of passionate changemakers who are committed to making a difference in women’s health, particularly when it comes to one of the most pressing issues that we face today — heart disease.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. In fact, cardiovascular diseases, which include heart disease and stroke, claim the life of a woman every 80 seconds. These diseases are largely preventable — in fact, about 80% of them can be avoided through healthy lifestyle choices. However, many women are not aware of the risks or the preventive measures they can take to protect their heart health. That’s where the Go Red for Women movement comes in.

Why Women’s Heart Health Matters

The Go Red for Women campaign was launched in 2004 to raise awareness about heart disease as the greatest health threat to women. Since then, it has grown into a powerful movement that brings together thousands of women across the country. It’s not just about wearing red or sharing heart-health facts — it’s about creating real change.

Women’s heart health is particularly important because, for many years, women’s cardiovascular health was often overlooked or misunderstood. Historically, heart disease has been thought of as a “man’s disease,” but we now know that women are just as vulnerable — if not more so — and the symptoms often present differently. Women may experience more subtle signs of a heart attack, which can make it harder to diagnose and treat in time. This is why raising awareness and providing women with the tools to take charge of their heart health is so important.

The Go Red for Women Campaign: A Movement for Change

I am proud to be part of this campaign, which has a mission to improve the health of our communities and provide women with opportunities to take control of their health. Through this campaign, I am working with a team to promote healthy lifestyles, raise critical funds for the American Heart Association, and build awareness around the prevention of heart disease and stroke. This is about more than just changing individual behaviors; it’s about changing the culture around women’s health and advocating for access to health care, especially for those who are underserved.

The funds we raise will support research, education, and initiatives that aim to reduce the prevalence of heart disease and stroke in women. The reality is that many women don’t know they are at risk until it’s too late, and we need to change that. By supporting the Go Red for Women campaign, we are not only saving lives but also transforming communities, ensuring that women have access to the education, resources, and support they need to stay healthy.

As a woman who has had the privilege of serving in leadership positions throughout my career, I understand the importance of leading by example and taking action where it matters most. In my role as President and CEO of At Your Home Familycare, I’ve seen how important it is to take proactive steps to support those in need — whether it’s providing quality care for seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, or advocating for the health of our communities.

The opportunity to lead in the Go Red for Women campaign is an extension of that commitment. It’s about using my platform and experience to make a difference on a broader scale. It’s about inspiring others to take charge of their health and making sure that women have the knowledge, tools, and support they need to thrive.

The Time for Change is Now

The time is now for women to take a stand, commit to better heart health, and work together to create meaningful change. Our team is passionate about preventing heart disease and stroke, and we are committed to raising the funds and awareness needed to make a lasting impact. But we can’t do it alone — we need your help. Together, we can raise funds for critical research, educate women on the importance of heart health, and advocate for healthier communities.

When women unite, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. This campaign is proof that when we work together, we can make real, lasting change. I’m excited to be a part of this movement and to have the chance to make an impact on the health and well-being of women everywhere.
